St Mary, Farndale

Description of the Church

Deanery | Parish | Church | Description| Services |

Like its neighbour, this chapel was rebuilt after Bransdale and Farndale became a separate parish in 1871. It was again renovated after the First World War. The large chancel has a fine timber roof, and there are a baptistry, porch, vestry and nave. Somewhere in the chapelry of Farndale there was once a house of friars, in the middle ages, who may have had something to do with the beginnings of church life in the dale. Today, St Mary's continues their work.
