Description of the Church |

|
A wonderful church hidden deep in the North York Moors, this area was once populated by over 200 people, now only a handful remain. With its painted wagon roof and lavish decoration by Temple Moore, St Mary Magdalene has delighted and inspired both Sir John Betjeman and Pevsner. The remote location of the church meant that in Victorian times clergy had to ride there on Saturday evening and sleep in a hammock in the south aisle in order to be on time for the Sunday service. |
